Workshop 1 : Groundwater Pollution
Title 1 : Investigation and Remediation of the Groundwater Pollution Mechanism
Summary :
Groundwater is a vital component of water supply for industrial, and agricultural purposes. Additionally, groundwater is the main source of drinking water, and previous studies show that about two billion people depend directly upon aquifers for drinking water. However, because of the population growth, the development of industry and agriculture, and climate changes, groundwater pollution becomes a serious global concern. In general, groundwater pollution is complex, and has long-term impacts and poses a serious threat to human health. Therefore, the study of investigation and remediation of the groundwater pollution mechanism is of particular importance.
This workshop aims to bring together the research accomplishments provided by researchers from academia. The other goal is to show the latest research results in the field of groundwater pollution mechanism and their remediation. We encourage prospective authors to submit related distinguished research papers on the subject: theoretical approaches and practical case reviews. Please name the title of the submission email with “paper title workshop title”.
Keywords : groundwater pollution, complex, long-term impacts, mechanism, investigation, remediation
Chair :
Prof. Xubo Gao, China University of Geosciences, China

Xubo Gao received his Ph. D. degree in Groundwater Science and Engineering at China University of Geosciences. He works as a professor at School of Environmental Studies of China University of Geosciences. His research areas include karst groundwater chemistry, hydrogeochemical process of groundwater, bacteria mediated minerals interaction and groundwater-aquifer minerals interaction. He participated in projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation, National Key Projects, Provincial Key Projects, etc. Based on these projects, he published more than 50 papers indexed by SCI and Ei on Science China and other journals and conferences.
Workshop 2 : Fishery resources, Aquaculture, and safety of aquatic products
Title 2 : Healthy aquaculture pattern and technology without environment pollution
Summary :
During the past decades, aquaculture production has made impressive progress in many countries, where aquaculture has attained an economic and social importance. However, infectious diseases, high antibiotic level in some aquatic products and water environmental pollution have seriously affected the sustained development of the aquaculture industries. It is urgently needed to develop the healthy aquaculture pattern and technology without environment pollution. The information on the forming process of healthy aquaculture pattern, the formation of the technology, and the important roles of these patterns in the prevention and control of aquaculture diseases and the production of safe aquatic products will provide new ideas and methods for the sustained development of the world aquaculture industry.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together the research accomplishments provided by researchers from academia and the industry. The other goal is to show the latest research results in the field of healthy aquaculture pattern and technology. We encourage prospective authors to submit related distinguished research papers on the subject of both theoretical approaches and practical case reviews. Please name the title of the submission email with “paper title_workshp title”.

Prof. Jingfeng Sun, Fishery Resources, Tianjin Agricultural University

Jingfeng Sun received a Ph.D. degree in marine biology from the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He works as a professor at the Fisheries College, Tianjin Agricultural University. His research interests include fisheries resources biology and aquatic animal disease control. For the past years, he has successfully applied and finished more than 20 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Personnel of the People's Republic of China and Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. Based on these projects, he has published more than 100 Chinese and English journal papers, including 30 SCI papers as first or corresponding author.
Workshop 3 : Groundwater flow systems
Title 3 : Groundwater recharge and discharge patterns in the arid and semi-arid regions
Summary :
Accurate estimation of the groundwater recharge and discharge patterns are essential for sustainable management of groundwater resources, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. In these water-limited areas, the recharge rate is generally low in comparison with average precipitation or evapotranspiration (ET). It can be very challenging to quantify the low groundwaterrecharge fluxes or ET. There are many methods such as the water-balance method, calculations using Darcy’s law, lysimeter experiments, water table fluctuation, and modeling (e.g. HYDRUS) which could be used to recharge or distrage estimation. Appropriate methods should be chosen as for the different cover conditions such as the irrigated fields, wasteland, desert etc. especially in the region scales.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together the research accomplishments provided by researchers from academia and the industry. The other goal is to show the latest research results in the field of groundwater flow systems especially for the groundwater recharge and discharge estimations in the arid and semi-arid regions. We encourage prospective authors to submit related distinguished research papers on the subject of both: theoretical approaches and practical case reviews. Please name the title of the submission email with “paper title_workshop title”.
